Rates matter. Realtor.com reported that mortgage rates surged above 7% for the first time since January 2025. That puts real pressure on buyers across McHenry County. But pressure does not mean every part of the county slowed down.

Rates above 7%: what that means for McHenry County buyers

Realtor.com reported that mortgage rates crossed 7% for the first time since January 2025. Nationally, Realtor.com also found that 20.8% of listings took a price cut in September, the highest share since October 2022. McHenry County's tightest ZIPs have not followed that pattern, but buyers in those areas do feel the rate bite.

The Federal Housing Finance Agency reported U.S. house prices rose 2.6% from July 2025 to July 2026. That is a modest national backdrop. But some McHenry County ZIPs ran well ahead of that pace.
